
Kisshomaru Ueshiba was born in Ayabe, Kyoto prefecture (Japan) and studied Economical Science in the Waseda University. He was the third son of Morihei Ueshiba (founder of Aikido) and the only one who survived. In 1942 he became director of the Kokuban Dojo. In 1967 he was chosen president of the Aikikai. On July 14th 1970 he was named Aiki Doshu, following his father's legacy. Thanks to him, Aikido has greatly spread among Europe and America. He died in 1977 at the age of 77 years.
